Cereal crops.
During the reporting period, most of Ukraine was under the influence of cool air masses brought from the northwest by a large-scale cyclone. Winter wheat is in the following phases: flowering – grain filling – milk ripeness; winter barley: grain filling – milk-wax ripeness; spring wheat and spring barley: heading – flowering.
In winter cereal crops, on sunny days, the flight of adult cereal flies (frit fly dominates) continues – 2.0 specimens per 100 sweeps of a sweep net. Mostly in barley fields, the feeding of their larvae continues, with an average density of 0.25 specimens per sq.m, damaging 1% of plants.
The beginning of hatching of sunn pest larvae has been noted, as well as the harmfulness of other cereal bugs (bishop's mitre shield bug, Moorish bug), which infest crops at an adult density of 0.1-0.6 (specimens per sq.m) and larval density of 0.2-0.4 (specimens per sq.m). On 15-40% of the surveyed areas, 4-12% of plants were slightly damaged by the phytophage.
The field margins are infested by grain beetles. At a density of 0.3 specimens per sq.m, 1-2% of plants are infested on 2% of the surveyed crop areas.
Flea beetles infest 1-10% of plants on 20% of the surveyed areas (up to 23% of the surveyed areas in the south), with an adult density of 2.0 specimens per sq.m.
The feeding of cereal leaf beetle larvae in cereal crops is ending, at a density of 0.3-2.0 specimens per sq.m. Adults are at 0.1-0.2 specimens per sq.m. 3-4% of winter cereal plants were damaged on most (43-100%) of the surveyed areas, and up to 1-2% of spring barley crops on 63% of the surveyed areas.
By wheat thrips, at an adult density of 2.0 specimens per ear, 2-8% of plants were damaged on 7-52% of the surveyed areas. The beginning of hatching of their larvae was noted – 2.0-7.0 specimens per ear.
Cereal aphids infest up to 6% of plants, at a density of 2.0-8.0 specimens/plant, on 16-38% of the surveyed winter crop areas, and 2% of plants on 50% of the surveyed spring barley areas. The development of the pest is suppressed by entomophages, among which the seven-spot ladybird dominates.
By black wheat sawfly – on 5% of the surveyed areas, 1.7% of plants are infested at 0.02 specimens per 100 plants (Cherkasy oblast).
Precipitation favored the spread of diseases; on winter wheat, symptoms of infection are observed: powdery mildew – 2.3-13% of plants on 15-50% of the surveyed areas, with disease severity up to 1.5-2.5%; septoria leaf blotch – 3.2-12% of plants on up to 49% of the surveyed areas, with disease severity up to 1-2.5%; brown leaf rust – 1.2-3.0% of plants on 3% of the surveyed areas, with disease severity of 1.2%; fusarium head blight – 1.5-3.0% of plants on 11-15% of the surveyed areas, with disease severity of 1%.
On 0.7-2% of spring barley crops, powdery mildew, net blotch, and spot blotch were detected, with 0.5-2% of plants infected and disease severity of 0.4-1%.
Winter barley – on 10% of crops, 4% of plants are infected with septoria leaf blotch with a disease severity of 1%.
In spring wheat crops, the development of net blotch and stripe disease (with 1.5% and 3% of plants infected, respectively), and with a disease severity of 1.5% (Poltava oblast).
In winter oilseed rape crops, damage is caused by cabbage seedpod weevil – 10-40% of areas are infested, up to 70% maximum (Kirovohrad oblast), 1-12% of plants at a density of 0.2-4.0 specimens/plant, with 1-10% of plants damaged (Rivne, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Khmelnytskyi, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Chernivtsi, Sumy, Ternopil oblasts), cabbage stem weevil – 10% of areas infested, 1-4% of plants at a density of 0.2-2.0 specimens/plant (Sumy, Zhytomyr oblasts), pollen beetle – 10% of areas infested, 1% of plants at a density of 1.0 specimen/plant, with 1.3% of plants damaged (Khmelnytskyi, Rivne oblasts), aphids – 3-32% of areas infested, 0.5-4% of plants at a density of 1-25 specimens/plant, with 0.5-6% of plants damaged (Kherson, Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Zhytomyr oblasts), rape butterfly – 10-50% of areas infested, 1.3-2% of plants at a density of 1 specimen/plant, with 1.3-2% of plants damaged (Kherson, Poltava, Sumy oblasts), diamondback moth – 7-25% of areas infested, up to 100% maximum (Poltava oblast), 1-15% of plants at a density of 1-3 specimens/plant, with 1-4% of plants damaged (Kherson, Poltava, Rivne, Zakarpattia oblasts), brassica pod midge – 7-22% of areas infested, up to 57-100% maximum (Chernivtsi, Kirovohrad oblasts), 0.5-10% of plants at a density of 0.4-8.0 specimens/plant, with 0.5-6% of plants damaged (Kirovohrad, Rivne, Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Ternopil, Zhytomyr oblasts), whitefly – 100% of areas infested, 4% of plants at a density of 5.0 specimens/plant, with 4-7% of plants damaged (Poltava oblast).
Alternaria black spot infected 1-44% of areas, 1.5-7% of plants with a disease severity of 0.1-3% of winter oilseed rape (Kherson, Zakarpattia, Rivne, Chernivtsi, Chernihiv, Ternopil, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi oblasts), downy mildew – 5-50% of areas, 1.5-8% of plants with a disease severity of 0.1-8% (Kherson, Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi oblasts), phoma stem canker – 5-29% of areas, up to 100% maximum (Poltava oblast), 1-25% of plants with a disease severity of 0.2-4.8% (Kherson, Zakarpattia, Khmelnytskyi, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Zhytomyr oblasts).
