The Plant Protection Institute of NAAS of Ukraine works with foreign research institutions and professional networks and participates in international projects, joint research, scientific events, training programmes, and exchanges of experience.
The Institute’s international activities focus on joint research, better methods for diagnosing and monitoring harmful organisms, phytosanitary risk assessment, modern plant protection systems, and adapting agricultural production to environmental and climate challenges.
The Institute welcomes participation in international research and innovation consortia, including Horizon Europe and other European and international programmes. It can offer partners scientific expertise, laboratory and experimental facilities, long-term data, and opportunities to test research results under Ukrainian conditions.
The Plant Protection Institute of NAAS of Ukraine participates in the PROGRESS project. Through PROGRESS-related activities, the Institute takes part in training and exchanges on sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation, efficient resource use, and integrated plant protection.
More about PROGRESSIn 2025–2029, the Plant Protection Institute of NAAS of Ukraine is conducting research with the Czech Agrifood Research Center on the phytosanitary status of agroecosystems and the phytosanitary risks posed by quarantine organisms. Joint research covers cereal crops, winter wheat seed phytopathogens, the species composition of mycoflora, plant disease etiology, the sensitivity of microorganisms to active substances, and the effectiveness of chemical and biological protection measures.
Cooperation with research institutions in the Republic of Moldova covers plant protection and quarantine, phytosanitary security, plant physiology and genetics, and plant responses to stress factors. The Institute’s Phytopathology Laboratory works with the Institute of Genetics, Physiology and Plant Protection of the Republic of Moldova on the phytosanitary security of plant resources and modern crop protection.
Cooperation with the Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute – National Research Institute of Poland covers research into adventive harmful organisms, improvements to research methods, and scientific exchange.
Research cooperation with the Vokė Branch of the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry concerns adventive and locally distributed organisms, improvements to research methods, and the exchange of scientific findings.
Cooperation with Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University aims to develop scientific and educational ties, improve methods for studying adventive and locally distributed organisms, and conduct joint research.
Cooperation with the Ankara Plant Protection Research Institute covers adventive and locally distributed harmful organisms, improvements to research methods, and scientific exchange. The Institute’s 2025 report records a cooperation agreement signed in 2024.

The Plant Protection Institute of NAAS of Ukraine has laboratory, greenhouse, and field facilities that support all stages of research, from laboratory diagnostics and controlled experiments to field testing of plant protection technologies and products.
The Institute’s testing laboratories hold current accreditation under DSTU EN ISO/IEC 17025:2019 (EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017, IDT; ISO/IEC 17025:2017, IDT). Accreditation certificate No. 202357 is valid until 6 November 2028.

The scope of research includes phytosanitary examination, mycological and phytohelminthological studies, identification of selected pathogens and nematodes, testing seed sowing qualities, and biological and environmental evaluation of plant protection products.
The Institute can conduct studies under controlled conditions, work with pathogens and artificial infection material, screen plant protection products in the laboratory, and run small-plot and field trials.
The biological research collections of the Plant Protection Institute of NAAS of Ukraine are an important part of its research infrastructure.
The entomological collection contains about 10,000 insect species from various taxonomic groups, including harmful, beneficial, quarantine, and other species. It is used for research, species identification, biodiversity studies, and training researchers.
Collections of phytopathogenic fungi support diagnostic and experimental studies, pathogenicity research, assessment of plant resistance to disease, creation of artificial infection backgrounds, and studies of plant protection product effectiveness.
The Plant Protection Institute of NAAS of Ukraine welcomes participation in international research and innovation consortia. The Institute can undertake individual research tasks or a full cycle of work:
field experiment → phytosanitary monitoring → sampling → laboratory diagnostics → evaluation of protection products and systems → data analysis → testing results under Ukraine’s agroecological conditions.
The Institute can join international projects as a research partner responsible for field and laboratory studies, phytosanitary assessment, monitoring harmful organisms, evaluating plant protection technologies, and preparing scientific recommendations.
Priority areas for cooperation include phytosanitary security, climate change, biological and integrated plant protection, reducing pesticide use, agroecosystem resilience, agricultural biodiversity, and sustainable agriculture.

In 2025, Institute staff participated remotely in scientific conferences and symposia associated with institutions and venues in Moldova, Switzerland, Czechia, Romania, Canada, the Netherlands, Latvia, and the United Kingdom. Topics included plant protection, genetics and breeding, biotechnology, invasive species, climate-smart agriculture, horticulture, phytopathology, and herbology.
The Plant Protection Institute of NAAS of Ukraine welcomes new international partnerships. We are interested in working with research institutions, universities, research centres, agricultural enterprises, innovative companies, and other organizations active in plant protection, phytosanitary security, and sustainable agriculture.
The Institute is ready to help form international consortia for Horizon Europe and other European and international programmes, jointly develop project proposals, and conduct research in Ukraine.
